In general, minimally invasive surgery means any technique that aims to minimize the trauma of traditional surgery. Laparoscopic also called band-aid or keyhole, surgery refers to operations in the abdomen performed through small (0.5-1.5 cm) incisions. Dr. Hitendra Patil is trained under eminent faculty in minimally invasive surgery and has been awarded few fellowships in the same as well. Minimal Invasive Surgery [MIS] has been recent cutting-edge technology applied to surgery and cancer is not an exception. The advantages are tiny scars & so big incisions are avoided. Hence the recovery is faster. The magnified view in MIS enables the surgeon to preserve viral structures like nerves or small blood vessels which in turn contribute to better quality results. However, MIS is not approved in certain indication. Keeping it in mind, Dr Patil utilities MIS for universally approved indication in cancer surgery. Robotic surgery is the present epitome of MIS and may have bright future, once widely evaluated and approved.
